PUSH

PUSH

Pregnant teenager Precious Jones lives in Harlem with her mother who beats her. She wants Precious to stay home, eat herself fat and keep the welfare checks coming. After being suspended Precious joins an alternative school and, inspired by her new teacher and class mates, she finally learns to read and write.

Adapted from the novel by Sapphire and re-imagined by the ensemble cast, PUSH is a powerful and disturbing story enlivened by humour, joy and 1980s dance moves set to original music.

Co-directed by Catherine Alexander (Quiconque) and Grainne Byrne (Scarlet Theatre) in collaboration with The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.
