Sweet Charity is a popular American musical which was directed and choreographed by Bob Fosse and premiered on Broadway in 1966 where it was nominated for nine Tony Awards. The book, by Neil Simon, is loosely based on Fellini’s screenplay for Nights Of Cabiria and follows the romantic toils of an ever hopeful dancer-for-hire from a New York dance hall. The show features the music of Cy Coleman and the lyrics by Dorothy Fields and includes the song standards Big Spender, If My Friends Could See Me Now and The Rhythm Of Life. The musical was adapted for the screen in 1969 and starred Shirley MacLaine in the title role.
